Temperature: Temperature: Average room temperatures of 65°F (16°C) --- 75°F (24°C) are suitable and no lower than 55°F (12.7°C). Light: The cycas revoluta grows at its best with bright light, without direct sunlight. Watering: The soil is best kept moist, so water once the soil begins to dry slightly at the top. Over-watering or watering at the crown of the plant can cause the plant to rot. During the winter reduce watering. Soil: A well draining and aerated potting mix is needed. Something like 1 part peat, 1 part pine bark and 1 part coarse sand is a suitable mix. Re-Potting: Once again because its a slow growing plant it does not need to be re-potted every year. How to plant cycad seeds?

Soak the seeds in a bucket of water overnight to determine which are viable. Scoop out and discard any sago palm seeds that float to the surface because they are probably not viable. Plant only the seeds that sink to the bottom of the bucket. Inspect the seeds and discard any with obvious signs of mold or damage. Prepare a container for each sago palm seed. Fill 4-inch plastic pots with a mixture of half perlite and half milled peat. Sow one seed in each pot. Lay the seed on the surface of the soil so the rounded end is parallel with the soil surface. Press the sago palm seed into the surface of the soil until it is two-thirds buried but still plainly visible. Drizzle water into the pot until the growing mixture is saturated and the water begins to drain from the bottom of the pot. Place the potted sago palm seeds in a bright, sheltered location such as on a porch or inside a lightly shaded cold frame. Warm the pots to between 75 and 90 F using a germination mat. Cover the pots with a propagation dome to hold warmth around the seeds. Maintain a constant level of light moisture in the growing mixture. Add water whenever the growing mixture feels nearly dry beneath the surface but do not allow it to become soggy since the sago palm seeds will rot.
