Description

The plant used in herbal medicine. All parts of the plant contain the alkaloids atropine, hyoscyamine and bellodonnine, which are used as a sedative, antispasmodic.

Indian Belladonna is a branched perennial grows up to 3 feet. Stem and branches are fistular, young shoots minutely velvety. Leaves are long & wide, elliptic, long-pointed, wedge-shaped at the base. Flowers are 2 to 2.3 cm long, yellow, petals blunt.

Stamens do not protrude out, anthers are about 3 mm long, oblong, filaments 10 to 11 mm long. It is in flower from June to August, and the seeds ripen from August to October Berry is spherical, 1 cm broad, black when ripe. The species are hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects.
