Description

Plumbago indica medicinal plant is an evergreen perennial shrub. Root has many uses: it is acrid, vesicant, alternative, digestive, stimulant.

Perennial herb or small shrub up to 2 m tall; stems erect, trailing or climbing. The stems drop and root and prefers a rich, well-drained soil that is moist. The pH of the soil must lie between 5.5-6 for ideal growth.

The flowers are bisexual; the dark green leaves are 3 inches long and ovate. They are 2-3 inches long and 1-1.5 inches wide. The white flowers have five petals and a stalk. The flowering season is during autumn. It has long, sharp fruits. The brown roots are white within and finger-shaped. The root of the plant finds use in medicine. It stimulates the digestive enzymes, increases Pitta and balances vata thereby helping Ama Pachan, or the food digestion.
