Description

Rauvolfia serpentina, the Indian snakeroot, devil pepper, or serpentine wood, is a species of flower in the milkweed family Apocynaceae. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and East Asia (from India to Indonesia).

Rauvolfia is a perennial undershrub widely distributed in India in the sub-Himalayan regions up to 1,000 metres (3,300 ft).

Planting and care

  • Watering should be done early in the morning when the soil feels to dry.

    Sarpagandha care
    Sarpagandha plant propagated by seeds in monsoon season. The seedlings of six weeks old are transplanted in the pot or main field at a spacing of 60 X 60 cm.

    Sarpagandha special feature

    It is the source of the phytochemical, reserpine, which has been used in the treatment of systolic hypertension.

    Ashwagandha uses

    Medicinal Use:
    • Sarpagandha improves symptoms of hypertension, insomnia (sleeplessness), anxiety, irritability, constipation, fever, and manias.
