Carissa carandas is a species of flowering shrub or small tree. It produces berry-sized fruits that are commonly used as a condiment in Indian pickles and spices. It is a hardy, drought-tolerant plant that thrives well in a wide range of soils.

Very attractive when in fruit, the plant is often grown in the garden both as an ornamental and for its fruit in tropical and subtropical areas.

Planting and care

  • Grows best in full sunlight will also grow in semi shade but will not fruit as much.
  • Any type of soil is fine though in its natural habitat it prefers slightly acidic soils.
  • Soil has to be very well drained. Can grow in rocky soils.
  • Grows very well in containers too. Choose a large one.

  • Keep the plant in Natural indirect bright Light.
  • Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
  • Apply 3 cup (Approx. 150 ml ) water when top soil (1-2 inches) in pot feels dry to touch.
  • Do not re-pot for min. 2 weeks after receiving it.
