How to grow marigold from dried flowers

If you have marigolds in a planter or in your garden keep them deadheaded blossoms because they can be used to establish new plants. Wait until the blossoms fade and the plant becomes papery before trying to grow marigold from dried flowers.

Harvest them with a shear once they've dried and turned light brown. Place a container under the faded blossom such as a paper envelope or a plastic cup. Crush the blossom of a dried flower and the seeds will fall into the container.

Fill a medium-sized pot halfway with garden soil then top it with a layer of well-made compost or manure. Cover the seeds with soil and press them down. In 25 weeks they will sprout.

How to grow marigolds in pots

Once established marigolds require very little upkeep and are pest-free. Healthy marigolds require enough air movement so don't overcrowd potted marigolds.

One marigold will fill a 6-inch 15-cm pot but two or three will fill a 12-inch 30-cm pot and five or more little plants will fill an 18-inch-diameter container.

Use the one plant per one pot guideline if the pot is tiny. Fill your pot in which you want to grow marigold with good soil. Spread your seeds in the soil after spraying them with water and bury them in the soil.

If you give them enough sunlight they will thrive in your pots.

How to take care of marigold plant

Marigolds are unbelievably easy to grow from seed and even novice gardeners can succeed. The majority of marigolds require full sun but they will take slight shade. Some midday shade is desirable during times of excessive heat.

As long as the soil is not too acidic they should be happy with an excellent garden soil.

Make sure your marigold seeds or seedlings get frequent watering when you first plant them. Let them in dry soil for no longer than a few days.

Water young plants every day if the weather is especially hot and sunny. Cutting off wasted blooms deadheading helps improve the plant's look and encourages more flowering later on in the season.

Marigolds are mostly yellow-orange in color. It's named after the Marys' Gold flower of the same name. The flower can be found in a number of colors including golden orange white red and yellow but yellow and orange are the most prevalent.

Marigold flowers thrive in warm damp environments. When the temperature rises over 22 degrees Celsius it begins to blossom Mid-January. Until the end of April, the blossoming will continue until the temperature hits 35 degrees Celsius.

The majority of marigold types bloom early in the morning and the blossoms last for more than a week.
