Grow in average, medium to wet, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Thrives in moist soils. Avoid dry soils. Prefers full sun. Prune as needed in late winter to early spring.

Planting and care

Regular supplemental watering is important for weeping willow trees during their first year of growth to ensure establishment of deep roots. Never allow the soil to dry deeper than the top 2 to 3 inches. Weeping willows older than one year require supplemental watering only during periods of little to no rainfall to prevent the soil from becoming dry.

A yearly application of 10-10-10 slow-release fertilizer will ensure that the tree has access to adequate nutrients. Apply the fertilizer in the spring when the tree begins active growth at a rate of 1 tablespoon per square foot of soil.
