Description
Sphaeranthus indicus is widely used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine in various conditions like epilepsy, mental illness, hemicrania, jaundice, hepatopathy, diabetes.
It is a medicinal herb with cylindric branches. Leaves are obovate-oblong, rounded, glandular-hairy. Flowers are purple & globose, solitary glandular peduncles with toothed wings. Flowering season from November to January.
The plant is used in the Ayurvedic treatment of pain, localized swelling, indigestion, headache, cough, elephantiasis, goiter, skin diseases and to improve the sexual vigor. Roots and seeds are anthelmintic. Juice of fresh leaves is taken for a cough. The plant is also useful in the preservation of food grains as it possesses insecticidal property.Plant Specifications
