The almond is small to a medium-sized tree with a spreading, open canopy. The tree growing 4 to 10 m in height. Leaves 3 to 5, linear or slightly ovate, with acute tips and finely serrate margins. The flowers are light pink or white in color, and fragrant.
Flowers are borne laterally on spurs or short lateral branches, or sometimes laterally on long shoots. Almonds begin bearing an economic crop in the third year after planting. Trees reach full bearing five to six years after planting. The fruit matures in the autumn, 7 to 8 months after flowering. The almond fruit measures 3.5 to 6 cm long.
