Description
Well known medicinal climber used for its innumerable therapeutic properties like antioxidant, antibacterial, vasodilator, galactagogue, Jivaniya.
The species is a much branched laticiferous twining shrub with yellowish brown, deeply cracked bark. Leaves are ovate, cordate, coriaceous, glabrous above and more or less finely pubescent beneath. Inflorescence is a many-flowered cyme with greenish-yellow flowe Fruit is horned shaped and slender.Seeds are lanceolate.
Flowering occurs in May and June, while fruiting begins in October and continues up to November. The plant grows well in warm tropical and subtropical regions with moderate rainfall. Sandy-loam and alluvial black soils are found to be good for commercial cultivation.It is used as Jivanti in preparation of many Ayurvedic medicines. This drug is accepted as real Jivanti. Ayurvedic herb used for the treatment of fever, urinary infection, improving the eye vision and for nourishing the body tissues.Their major use is to prevent prolapse of uterus and vulva in controlling habitual abortion in women.
