Description
The evergreen tree used in Ayurveda.fruit is believed to be used as an antiscorbutic.
The tall deciduous tree grows up to 20 mete trunk fluted with short spreading branches, wood moderately hard, yellow, bark dark grayish brown or dark brown. Leaves are the simple opposite. Inflorescence axillary solitary, cymes or fascicles. Flowers heterochlamydeous, dioecious, pseudo-bisexual. Male flowers are axillary, solitary or fascicled, yellow.
Female flowers are bigger than male flowe The sliced fruits are dried in sun for consumption in curries or The pickle and in juices. It is pleasant to eat. Raw or cooked fruit is used as a fixative or as a mordant for saffron dye. It is used in curries and for acidulating water.
