Description
It is a medium-sized to a fairly large evergreen tree. The bark of young trees is also used in traditional medicine.
Dipterocarpus alatus is a tropical forest tree, of dense evergreen or mixed dense forests. Leaves are narrowly ovate to ovate to elliptical-oblong, stipules grayish-yellow pubescent.
Flowers are large, bisexual, actinomorphic, scented; calyx 5 parts, united around the ovary into a tube but not fused to it, oblong to spatulate while 3 short, Petals are large, oblong to narrowly oblong, strongly contorted, loosely cohering at base on falling, cream-white with a pink, red or purple stripe down the centre. Fruit nutlike, globose. Seeds adnate at the base, cotyledons large, unequal.Plant Specifications
