Description

It is a large bushy evergreen parasitic plant. It is used as a folk medicine to treat a variety of diseases due to its bitter, astringent, cooling, narcotic and diuretic properties.

It is a large branch parasite. It is a shrub which is much branched, 1 to 3 m long. Swollen branches from the base and the bark is dark gray. Oppositely arranged leaves are 7 to 15 cm long, variable in shape. Flowers occur in stout racemes in leaf axils.

The flowers buds look like long white tubes. Flowers bloom in January to February. Vanda is useful in urinary diseases and calculi as a diuretic. It helps in prevention of stone in kidney and bladder. The plant possess the wound healing, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anticancer, antinociceptive, anthelmintic, antioxidant and antiseptic properties. The whole plant is used in indigenous systems of medicine as cooling, astringent, aphrodisiac, narcotic and diuretic.
