Description
Selaginella is the sole genus of vascular plants in the family Selaginellaceae, the spikemosses or lesser clubmosses.
Selaginella species are creeping or ascendant plants with simple, scale-like leaves (microphylls) on branching stems from which roots also arise. The stems are aerial, horizontally creeping on the substratum (as in Selaginella kraussiana), sub-erect (Selaginella trachyphylla) or erect (as in Selaginella erythropus). The vascular steles are polystelic protosteles.
Sr | Item name |
1 | Selaginella species - Plant |
2 | 5 inch (13 cm) Grower Round Plastic Pot (Black) |
Stem section shows the presence of more than two protosteles. Each stele is made up of diarch (having two strands of xylem) and exarch (growing outward in) xylems. The steles are connected with the cortex by means of many tube-like structures called trabeculae, which are modified endodermal cells with casparian strips on their lateral walls. The stems contain no pith.

Planting and care
Water a plant when the soil feels dry to touch. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering for the winter & rainy season.Try to water the plants in the morning around 8-10am.You should remove dead, infected or damaged plant parts and throw in the garbage collector. You should prune and fertilize a plant mostly in the spring season. When a plant grows beyond its limit and pot size not providing enough space for the spread of roots, re-pot with fresh soil and some fertilizer. While re-potting, try not to disturb the roots. Avoid any drastic change in the provided environment otherwise, the plants may get stress/shock.For any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.Initial care:
Keep the plant in natural indirect bright Light.Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.Water when top soil (1-2inches) feels dry to touch.Do not re-pot for min. 2 weeks after receiving it. Sunlight | At least 3-6 hours of preferably morning sunlight a day is ideal for plant to grow well and natural direct bright light for the rest of the day. |
Watering | Before water poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture. Water when top soil (1-2 inches) feels dry to touch. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season. |
Soil | The soil should be well drained and fertile, rich in organic content for growing plant. Grow well in pH range of 6.5 to 7.5 |
Temperature | 20 to 35 degrees C |
Fertilizer | During the main growing season (June-July) feed the plant with organic fertilizer. |
