Canna is a long-lived (perennial) herbaceous plant. The upright (erect) stems (1-2 m tall) are sturdy, hairless (glabrous) and green in colour. The alternatively arranged leaves consist of a stem-clasping sheath at the base and very large, spreading, leaf blade (20-60 cm long and 10-30 cm wide).

The yellow flower is asymmetrical, the sepals and petals are unequal.

Planting and care

Cannas do best with a good supply of water, so water the plants during the summer if the rainfall is less than 1 inch per week.

Keep a thin layer of mulch around cannas to help retain moisture as well.

Stake tall varieties if needed.

As flowers fade, deadhead to promote continued flowering.

Keep the plant in natural indirect bright Light.

Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.

Water when top soil (1-2inches) feels dry to touch.

Do not re-pot for min. 2 weeks after receiving it.

Sunlight	At least 1-3 hours of preferably morning sunlight a day is ideal for plant to grow well and natural indirect bright light for the rest of the day.
Watering	Before water poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture. Water when top soil (1-2 inches) feels dry to touch. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.
Soil	The soil should be well drained and fertile, rich in organic content for growing plant. Grow well in pH range of 5.5 to 7.5
Temperature	70 and 75F (21-23C).
Fertilizer	During the main growing season (Feb-June) feed the plant with organic fertilizer.
