Description for Dieffenbachia Maculata

The plant prefers bright to medium light and high humidity due to its normal habit of growing in tropical rain forests. It will grow in almost full sunlight once acclimated, but for best growth give it a bit of subdued light.

Common name Flower colours Bloom time Height Difficulty
Dumbcane Plant, Dumb Cane Plant, Mother-in-law Plant, Tuftroot - - 3 to 10 feet. Easy.

Planting and care

With a minimum temperature of 5 °C (41 °F), dieffenbachia must be grown indoors in temperate areas.
They need light, but filtered sunlight through a window is usually sufficient.
They also need moderately moist soil, which should be regularly fertilized with a proprietary house plant fertilizer.

Leaves will periodically roll up and fall off to make way for new leaves.
Yellowing of the leaves is generally a sign of problematic conditions, such as a nutrient deficiency in the soil.
Dieffenbachia responds well to hot temperatures and dry climates.

Sunlight Soil Water Temperature Fertilizer
Provide bright filtered light in spring, summer and autumn. During the winter the brightest possible light, including direct sunlight is best. Well draining soil. Lots of water during the summer. Soil stays moist but not wet. 18 to 29 degrees C Give actively growing Dieffenbachia seguine a liquid fertiliser about every two weeks. Do not fertilise in the winter.

Caring for Dieffenbachia Maculata

When potting or repotting plants, springtime is best just before the growing season begins. Rotate the dieffenbachia house plant regularly to provide adequate light to all sides of the plant and prevent it from reaching toward the light on one side.
