Planting and care
The neem tree thrives in most soils, even saline and alkaline ones, but it does better on dry, poor, rocky soils than on wet ground. The roots can penetrate a hard clay pan, which tends to increase soil fertility and helps to neutralize acidic soils.
It may be grown indoors in containers where its size can be controlled by pruning. Container plants generally have less drought tolerance than plants grown in the wild.
|Full sun to part shade||Well drained soil||Dry to medium||Temperatures up to 50°C (120F) are fine for growing neem trees. So is the occasional drop down to about 5°C (35F).||Apply any organic fertilizer|
Caring for Neem Tree
Water young trees once each week with a mild solution of fish emulsion.
Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, whether your tree is in a pot or in the ground.
Move your potted tree indoors to a place where it will receive plenty of warmth and light. If you don't have a sunny window, consider setting up grow lights.
Neem starts bearing fruits after 3-5 years and comes to full bearing at the age of 10-12 years.
