Description for Juhi, Jasminum Auriculatum

Jasmine Molle, which is a beautiful flowering plant and it, is known as “Jui” in Bengali of Jasmine Molle is “Jasminum Molle” and “Jasminum auriculatum” and this needs water regularly but over watering can be damage this plant growth.

Leaves are opposite, ashy-velvety, sometimes hairless, simple or trifoliolate. Lateral leaflets are much smaller, rarely exceeding 4 mm in diamter, the central one up to 3.5 cm long and 1.5 cm broad, ovate, shortly pointed. Nerves

Flowers are fragrant, in many-flowered cymes. Flower-stalks are up to 5 mm long. Calyx 3 mm long, pubescent, teeth minute. Flowers are white, tube 1.5 cm long, lobes elliptic, up to 8 mm long. Berry is 5 mm in diameter, globose, black. The flower is held sacred to all forms of Goddess Devi and is used as sacred offerings during Hindu religious ceremonies.

Planting and care

  • Jasminum Auriculatum is propagated from semi hardwood stem cuttings. Semi hardwood cuttings are pieces of plant stem which has matured partially after the current year growth.
  • Take 4-5 inches of stem cutting and dip in rooting hormone or water overnight before planting into soil.
  • Cover the container having cuttings with plastic bag and keep soil moist. Jasminum Auriculatum can be grown from seeds too. Seeds can be collected from existing plant itself once pods dry on plant.
