Because many palms are grown to a great height in tropical climates, a grower needs to know the plants matured height before buying. Grown indoors and potted correctly they will grow to approximately 3 ft- 8 ft in height, making it a good idea to plan where the plant will reside, based on the space needed.
|Prefers broken shade. It can take full sun as it matures if provided adequate water during dry periods. If home-grown, give some sun as with most tropical palms||It has a fibrous root system and benefits from deep organic, soils that are fertile, but thrives on wide range of tropical soils, like coastal marine alluvial clays, soils of volcanic origin, sands as long as they are well drained.||It prefers adequate moisture to look its best. This palm a will tolerate occasional dryness if not prolonged. Don't let sit in water. Indoor, potted palms should not be over-watered. They may contract the fungus Phytophthora, if over-watered.||They can handle a winter rest in cooler conditions, not less than 50 F. (10 C.). They do tolerate central heating.||Need a perfect fertilizer diet including all micro nutrients and trace elements three times a year if not grown in rich soil.|
Caring for Mascarena palm
- Palms grow best when you let their roots fill the pot.
They need soil-based potting compost and should not be repotted unnecessarily.
They are sensitive to chemicals and will be damaged if you expose them to aerosol sprays.
If you need to treat them with insecticides, be sure what you use is suitable for a palm.
Typical uses of Mascarena palm
Special features: Palms tend to lend themselves to creating shadows and reflections. You can stand a palm in an alcove that is lined with a mirror and create stunning effects. If you put one on each side of a fireplace, it’s even doubly stunning. The shadows cast by the palm’s fronds can pattern a plain wall. Spotlights can create good strong light for bold shadows.
These are quite dramatic. Don’t position spotlights too closely because this generates too much heat for the palm to withstand. Finally, lighting the plant from below can cast shadows onto opposite walls and even the ceiling.
