Tarragon, also known as estragon, is a species of perennial herb in the sunflower family. It is widespread in the wild across much of Eurasia and North America, and is cultivated for culinary and medicinal purposes in many lands.

Common name: French tarragon
Color: green
Bloom time: Rarely flowers
Height: 1.50 to 3.00 feet
Difficulty level: easy to grow

Planting & Care
Loosen the soil to a depth of 12 to 15 inches. The deep planting encourages the developing stem to send out roots to help stabilize the plant and perhaps eliminate the need for staking. Also, deep planting keeps plant bulbs cool when temperatures soar.

Sunlight: Full Sun to Partial Shade

Soil: well-drained soil

Water: Dry to medium

Temprature: -30C

Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer

Care:
  • You can’t grow French tarragon from seeds.
  • You must purchase the plants or take an established plant from a friend’s garden.
  • Get the transplants in the spring or fall.

Care:
  • Before winter, add 4 to 6 inches of mulch, simply to delay the ground freeze and allow the roots to keep growing.
  • Leave the mulch until spring once the last hard frost has passed.

Special Feature:
Plant the transplants in well-drained soil about 2 to 3 feet apart in order to give each plant room to grow. A full-grown plant should cover about 12 inches of soil. The plants should grow to around 2 or 3 feet in height.
Use

Note:
Susceptible to root rot in moist soils, particularly poorly drained ones. French tarragon does not always survive St. Louis winters, and wet soils in winter is a common cause of plant demise.

What garden lovers say ... ?

I planted the seeds in a vermincompost/soil mix outside in the shadow. Since it is very hot right now it is perfect for tomatos to grow. The seeds germinated a few days after planting them
