Description for Imported Winter Savory
Satureja montana is the scientific name of winter savory and herbaceous, perennial plant. The leathery, dark green, leaves are opposite, oval-lanceolate, (or needle-like), 1 to 2 cm long and 5 mm broad.
Planting and care
It can be propagated from softwood cuttings. Sow seeds indoor in the spring then transplant outdoors once the soil warms; transplant seedlings 10 to 12 inches apart in the garden. Sow late winter to spring. Plant in pots or trays containing a good seed compost at a depth of 2 mm. Transplanting the seedlings when large enough to handle. Harden off and plant out, space about 35 cm apart (16 inches) apart.
Caring for Imported Winter Savory
- After hardening, keep the plants well watered for optimum growth.
- Keep winter savory woody growth pruned to force new, non-woody growth, and shear off flowers after they bloom.
- In temperate climates, do not cut the plant back, all those stems which appear dead will leaf out again.

It can be picked year round.
