Description for Cornflower Mix
Centaurea cyanus L. is the scientific name of cornflower. Cornflower is an annual plant growing to 30 to 70 cm tall, with grey-green branched stems. The flowers are most commonly an intense blue color and others, produced in flower heads (capitula) 1.5 to 3 cm diameter.
Planting and care
Centaurea cyanus is native to temperate Europe, but is widely naturalized outside its native range. Direct sow in the average soil after a danger of heavy frost. Plant seeds in soil or in containers about 2 inches (5 cm) apart and one-half inch (1 cm) deep. Thin to 8 inches (20 cm) apart in all directions. Cornflowers germinate quickly after planting. Cover the seeds with half an inch of fine soil. Firm soil lightly, water it and keep evenly moist. Seedlings will emerge in 7 to 10 days.
