A large straggling, very thorny shrub its branches are armed with hooks and straight, hard, yellow prickles. The seeds are globular, hard, bluish grey with a smooth shiny surface. Sagargota flowers in June and fruits in November.

About Sagargota

Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to light shade. Best flowering occurs in full sun. Prefers rich, light soils. Tolerates a wide range of soils, however, including poor ones.

Planting and care

Plant care is not difficult but does require vigilance. The vines need to be trained early when they are young. You may use plant ties or just weave them through trellis sections. Fertilize the plant in spring just before new growth appears.
