It is one of the most important herbs in Ayurvedic medicine system. It grows in water, with bright purple flowers. The leaves are large and round, often more than a meter across, with a leaf stalk attached in the center of the lower surface.
Leaves are purplish, while the upper surface is green. The leaf has a quilted texture, although the stems, flowers, and leaves which float on the surface are covered in sharp prickles other leaves are submerged. Foxnut is used as food and also as medicine in Ayurveda and Chinese systems of medicine.It is indicated in gastritis, bleeding disorders such as nasal bleeding etc. Its seeds are rich in nutrition and used as part of the food.
