Interesting Fact: Interestingly the leaf pattern of this plant resemble fish skeleton. Fish bone Cactus is an epiphytic cactus with smooth green skin and extensively branched stems. The primary stems are often woody. The lobes are rectangular or slightly rounded.

The white or pale yellow flowers bloom nocturnally, exuding a strong, sweet scent. The fruit is thick, ovoid and brownish, greenish or yellowish in color.

Planting and care

  • Keep in a bright sunny location.
  • Try not to water the leaves, give water to soil only.
  • Avoid overwatering as the roots may get rot.

    Fishbone Cactus care

    Propagate from cuttings taken in spring or summer. Remove a 5-6 inch long branch and allow it to dry for a day before inserting it. Plant in the potting mix about 2cm deep. Re-pot when the plant performs clump and goes beyond the pot size. It should be done before or after the rainy season and in the spring season.

    Re-pot with the following proportions:3 parts of potting soil,1 part of grit (pumice),1 part of the horticultural-grade sand,1/2 part of the compost etc.

    1. Find Right Size Pot for Fishbone Cactus. When its time to report a cactus, look for a container thats about 2 inches (5 cm) larger than the one the cactus is currently in.
