Chrysopogon zizanioides, commonly known as vetiver is a perennial bunchgrass of the Poaceae family, native to India. In western and northern India, it is popularly known as khus.

Planting and care

Growing plants can be inexpensive, particularly when growing them from seed. Seeds of plants flowers should usually be sown directly into the sunny flower bed, as developing roots do not like to be disturbed.

Temperature: 25degrees C (77 degrees F).

Caring for Khus

    Place plants in full sun in average, well-drained soil. Drainage is important; dont place where roots will sit in water. Leaves develop best flavor in full sun.

Medicinal use: The most important chemical constituents present in the plant are benzoic acid, vetiverol, furfurole, and vetivone. It is also used for its cooling purpose and used to flavour traditional juice or Sharbat. It is also used to make mat and hand fans.
