Moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Best with minimum of 4-6 hours of full sun per day. Plants are generally fuller and more floriferous in full sun. Site in areas protected from strong winds.

Planting & Care
The Turk s cap plant grows as a bushy, 8- to 9-foot-tall shrub that also does well when pruned to one or two stems to develop as a small tree. A woody to semi-woody plant, it has large, slightly fuzzy leaves and, when unpruned, many spreading stems.

Care:
  • Turk s cap is generally tolerant of all soil types, but prefers well-drained, fertile loam.

  • It is also quite pest-free and not especially susceptible to any common plant diseases.

  • Turk s Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus) is used as a medicinal herb, a culinary herb, salad herb, and is also used for herbal dyes, and herbal teas.

  • The flowers and fruit make a good herbal tea, and the young leaves, fruits and flowers are edible raw or cooked.
