Description for Variegated Arrow Root (Maranta arundinacea)
It is a large, perennial herb. The rhizomes are fleshy, cylindrical, and grows up to 40 cm. Twin clusters of small white flowers bloom about 90 days after planting.
Planting and care
Propagation is through the rhizomes, rarely through the seeds. In cooler areas plant in spring, in frost-free tropical areas, plant at the beginning of the wet season. Plant the suckers at a spacing 0f 30 cm by 30 cm and to a depth of up to 20 cm.
Caring for Variegated Arrow Root
- Reduce watering in the winter.
- Mulch in the extreme cold.
- Prune the damaged or diseased plant parts.
- Water the plant when the soil feels dry to touch.
- Fertilize in the growing stages, once in 4 months.
Rhizomes are ready for harvesting 10 to 12 months after planting.
