Description for Aglaonema Costatum, Chinese Evergreen (Green)

The Aglaonema is a highly decorative plant with several interesting varieties. The lighter the variegation, the more light it needs.

There are many hybrid varieties of the Chinese evergreen available which have been cultivated over the last century. This is because of their increasing popularity for indoor growers to use them as ornamental plants for room decoration.

Aglaonema Crispum is also quite an undemanding plant.considered to be a shade tolerant plant with glossy dark green leaves with silver edges. The leaves of the species are oval and the trunk is erect. The plant is often grown in offices due to its unpretentiousness (this cultivar requires minimal care) and beautiful ornamental leaves.

Planting and care

Because of their high humidity requirements, some growers consider aglaonema to be greenhouse plants. It s true they will do best in the warm, humid and bright environment of a greenhouse, but they can successfully be grown indoors by coming as close as possible to these conditions.

The number one rule to remember with aglaonema is this: keep them warm and moist. If you do this, you ll be rewarded with a long-lasting, stable house plant that will not soon outgrow its pot.

The aglaonema is a highly decorative plant with several interesting varieties. There seems to be a little controversy in the books over whether this plant is easy or difficult to grow. The simple rule to follow is this: the lighter the variegation, the more light it needs. Otherwise, these are slow growing, attractive and make excellent foliage plants. They have large, narrow oval leaves on short stems.

Aglaonema are not typically propagated by home growers, but they can be divided during repotting. Small shoots can be potted as individual plants.

Bright light but no direct sunlight.A well-drained potting soil is perfect.Water thoroughly in the summer, and mist often to raise humidity. During the winter, reduce watering but do not let the plant dry completely. Seek to raise humidity in general.15 C to 25 CAdd a general purpose fertilizer before planting if the soil is poor. After the flowers have died off, cut the plant back to about six inches. Then add some general purpose fertilizer. This will promote new growth and a second bloom

Caring for Aglaonema Costatum

They are slow growing and will only need repotting every other year. Aglaonema are generally low-growing plants that will only very gradually reveal their trunks. Aglaonema is prone to stem rot and root rot if over-watered. This is especially true if your Aglaonema is in low light. The light your plant receives is the biggest factor in determining the watering of your Aglaonema.
