The plant is much-branched, erect, straggling or climbing, glabrous annual herb with a long, well-developed taproot, grows up to 2 feet. The plant is occasionally cultivated for its edible seed and as a green manure.
Flowering season from June to July. Seeds ripen from August to September. The plant has both male & female organ which pollinated by the insect. The plant has an extensive root system and fixes atmospheric nitrogen through bacteria that live on the roots.
It makes a good soil-enriching green manure crop or can be planted for erosion control.
