These are annual or perennial herbs or subshrubs. While some of the better known species are aquatic plants, most are terrestrial.They take many forms, from prostrate to erect to floating. Medicinal use: Stems and leaves useful in eye trouble. Decoction is taken with little salt drunk to check vomiting of blood. Shoot with other ingredients used to restore virility. Poultice used for boils.
