Hari champa is an evergreen climbing or scandent shrub growing up to 8 metres tall. A powerful, far-reaching, many-stemmed woody climber, the old stems of great thickness. It supports itself on other plants by means of modified leaf stems that are shaped like hooks. The plant yields an essential oil and is also used as a flavouring in tea. It is commonly cultivated as an ornamental plant.
The flowers of Hari champa are very long lasting and hold their scent for days, if kept in water, permeating an entire room.

Planting and care

  • Hari champa is propagated by seeds.
  • Sown the seeds 25-30 cm apart.
  • Soak the seeds in water before sowing for better germination result. Water the seeds regularly.
  • Germination will starts in about 10-12 days, is completed in 4 weeks.
  • Seeds germinate well in a temperature of 30 degrees C.
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade
    Soil: Well drained and fertile soil.
    Water: Moderately
    Temperature: 15 to 28 degrees C
    Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer.

    Caring for Hari champa

    • Water the plant only when the soil feels dry to touch.
    • Fertilize the plant twice a month during the growing season with any organic fertilizer.
