Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Prefers moist, humusy, acidic soils in full shade. Spreads slowly by creeping, branching rhizomes to form large colonies over time.

Planting & Care
Fertile and sterile fronds look the same in all Adiantum species. Spores are formed, particularly in older plants, along the edges of the fronds. The spore clusters are concealed beneath the curled-over edges of the leaves until they are mature.

Soil: well-drained soil

Water: medium

Temprature: 15° C (59° F).

Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer

Care:
  • The plant should then begin to shoot again.
  • Give a little less water in winter (except in very warm rooms).
  • Give low doses of fertilizer from the first month of spring to the first month of autumn every fortnight.
  • Make sure humidity levels are high and occasionally mist over lightly.


Special Feature:
Attractive ornamental fern for the shaded border, woodland garden, shaded rock garden or native plant garden. Combine with broad leaves of hostas, caladiums or brunneras. Also effective as an edger along paths in shade gardens.

Note:
No serious insect or disease problems. High summer heat may cause fronds to brown by mid to late summer, particularly if good soil moisture is not maintained and/or plants are grown in too much sun.
