Planting & Care
Growing petunias can offer long term colour in the summer landscape and brighten dreary borders with lovely pastel colours. Proper petunia care is simple and easy. After learning how to plant petunias you can include them in your flower bed and container garden.

Sunlight: It needs to be planted in the sun.

Soil: Petunias thrive in well-drained and fertile soil.

Water: Keep the soil lightly but consistently moist until the plants are established. Thereafter, water approximately once every week to 10 days or whenever the soil is dry. Provide enough water to saturate the soil to a depth of 6 to 8 inches. Don t water again until the soil is dry as petunias are prone to rot in soggy soil. Water early in the day to prevent diseases, such as mildew and rot.

Temprature: Grow on at about 15°C until well established, then reduce the temperature 10°C to develop a well-branched plant. Try to keep temperatures below 15°C as high temperatures encourage leggy growth.

Fertilizer: Feed grandiflora petunias monthly, using a dry or water-soluble, general-purpose garden fertilizer. Apply the fertilizer according to the guidelines on the container, and then water deeply to distribute the fertilizer throughout the root zone.

  • While petunias will grow in a partially shaded location, a fuller and more abundant bloom is produced in full sun.
  • Soil prepared before planting petunias should have well-composted organic matter worked in.
  • Care of petunias will include regular fertilization with a balanced, water soluble fertilizer designed for blooming plants.
