Dahlia is a genus of bushy, herbaceous and tuberous perennial plants. It is the member of Asteraceae family which also includes daisy, sunflower, zinnia and chrysanthemum.Dahlia flowers come in varying shades of white, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple depending on its variety. Blooms also vary in size depending on the variety and can range from 5 centimeters to 30 centimeters in diameter.
Dahlia's are most commonly used for decorative purposes on cakes, tarts and pastries. Serve alongside cheese or desserts as a garnish. Remove the petals of the Dahlia and add them to grain or green salads to add a pop of color.Dahlia flower season begins in early spring and continues through summer into early fall.
