olden delicious apple trees are at home in temperate climates spanning the continental United States. The coastal climate of the Bay Area requires planting and harvesting your golden delicious apples at the right time, but the process is no more difficult than growing any other apple variety.

Sunlight: Full sun

Soil: well-drained soil

Water: Medium

Temprature: 33 degree

Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer

  • Place a one-year-old sapling into the hole and gently spread out the roots so they are not tangled or wedged beneath the main stem.
  • Gently fill the hole with the soil you excavated until it is level with the surrounding earth.

Special Feature:
This apple cultivar is pruned and grown primarily with a view toward producing quality fruit, and its ornamental features are usually considered secondary.
Culinary use:
  • Apples with punctures or bruises should be avoided or used first, since they will not store as well.
  • Surface blemishes that do not penetrate the skin, such as russetting, have very little influence on fruit quality or storage life.
  • Although apples are fairly durable fruits, take care to avoid bruising them.

‘Grimes Golden’ shows some resistance to cedar apple rust, apple scab, fire blight and powdery mildew. Susceptible to collar rot. Potential insect pests include aphids, maggots, codling moth and plum curculio.
