Arctium minus, commonly known as lesser burdock, burweed, louse-bur, common burdock, button-bur, cuckoo-button, or wild rhubarb, is a biennial plant.

Common name(s): bardane, beggar's button, button-bur, common burdock, burweed, cuckoo-button, lesser burdock, louse-bur, wild burdock, wild rhubarb.
Flower colours: light lavendar to deep violet or rarely white, with dark purple-tipped stamens surrounding a white style and extending above the disk flowers.
Bloom time: July - September
Max reachable height: 2 to 5 feet
Difficulty to grow: easy to grow

Planting and care

Succeeds on most soils, preferably moist. Prefers a sunny position. Prefers partial shade according to another report. A polymorphic species.

Sunlight: Full Sun
Soil: Cultivate preferably in light, deep, well-drained and fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. This plant tolerates a soil pH in the range of 4.6-7.8, ideally a pH of 6.6 to 7.5 is better.
Water: Water moderately.
Temperature: -
Fertilizer: Budock is an aggressive plant that does not necessarily need fertilizer. To give plant a boost it can be fertilized occasionally with balanced fertilizer.

    Remove invasive plants that are competing for nutrients and resources.

Typical uses of Arctium minus

Special features: A fiber is obtained from the inner bark and is used to make paper. It is about 0.9 mm long. The stems are harvested in late summer, the leaves are removed and the stems steamed in order to strip off the fiber.

Culinary use: Root-raw or cooked,usually peeled and sliced.
The roasted root is a coffee substitute.
Young leaves and leaf stems-raw or cooked.

Ornamental use: A fibre is obtained from the inner bark and is used to make paper.

Medicinal use: It has soothing, mucilaginous properties and is said to be one of the most certain cures for many types of skin diseases, burns, bruises etc.
It is used in the treatment of herpes, eczema, acne, impetigo, ringworm, boils, bites etc.
