Malpighia emarginata is a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree. Fruiting may start after 2 to 3 years. The fruits are round, 1/2"-3/4" wide, bright red to purple, glossy skin, juicy, orange-colored pulp.
Green glossy leaves ave wavy margin.
Approximately 1 month is required for a fruit to ripen. It has approximately months of the harvest season.
Note: Stinging hairs that may cause skin irritation.
Planting and care
Keep spacing 4' for a hedge. It gives fewer fruits in part shade. It requires warm climate. It can be propagated by seeds, cuttings and other methods. A width of pots should be around 24 inches for single acerola tree.
