Rauvolfia serpentina, or Indian snakeroot is a species of flower in the family Apocynaceae. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and East Asia. Common English names include devil pepper and snakeroot.

Planting and care

Temperature: 25 to 40 degrees C
Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer

Caring for Rauwolfia serpentina

    Feed plants on a regular basis before and throughout the blooming cycle (avoid chemical fertilizers and pesticides if you’re harvesting for the kitchen).Once a month between April and July, apply a balanced granular fertilizer (5-10-5 or 5-10-10). Allow ¾ to 1 cup for each bush, and sprinkle it around the drip line, not against the stem.

Medicinal use: Sarpagandha (snakeroot) Medicinal herb uses. Rauwolfia serpentina (Sarpagandha) also know as Black snakeroot or Indian snakeroot or devil pepper, an evergreen plant, has been in use since 4000 years in Indian medicine. An erect under-shrub, it is a species of flowering plants.
