Description for Ficus Safari, Ficus benjamina

Plant height: 14 - 22 inches (35 - 56 cm)
Plant spread: 4 - 8 inches (10 - 21 cm)

These tropical plants generally have thick stems and fleshy, variegated leaves. Gardeners value this small, compact plant for its thick, variegated foliage, and ease of care.

It has broad elongated leaves. The leaf has irregular yellowish-white edges, with shades of green sections in the center. Leaf size is largest on young plants. Ficus plants range from large trees to woody shrubs.

Common name(s): Ficus Safari
Flower colours: NA
Bloom time: NA
Max reachable height: Up to 20 m

Planting and care

Cut below the thinner parts, just above the thick part of the branches. Cut right above leaf nodes. Try to prune the overall size of the plant. Everywhere you prune, new branches will spring up. Always keep few sets of leaves, at least, so it can continue to make food for itself and re-grow.

This Ficus can keep under the indoor condition where the direct sunlight is available.

Sunlight: Full to partial sunlight
Soil: Well-drain sandy loam soil
Water: Moderately
Temperature: 25 to 35 degree C
Fertilizer: Liquid fertilizer on a monthly basis between spring and summer.

Caring for Ficus Safari

  • Extremely dry soil causes baby rubber plant to drop its leaves, while consistently wet soil may cause root or stem rot.
  • Water only when the soil becomes dry, usually about once every 10 to 14 days for indoor plants and once every week for outdoor plants.
  • The plant requires re-potting only once every 2 or 3 years.

Typical uses of Ficus Safari

Special features: Foliage

Ornamental use: Used as an ornamental plant.
