Plantscaping (4/4) - Small plants that spark joy in the workplace

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” — Leonardo Da Vinci

In Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of this series, we covered the rise of ‘plantscaping’ among corporate offices, how top co-working spaces are adopting this concept in designing the modern workplace and our suggestions among large and medium plants for the workplace. In this article, we will focus on small indoor plants that fit well into the workplace.

Here are five small plants (6-12 inches) that bring a tiny bit of nature into your desks at the office: -

1. Anthurium

Also known as the flamingo flower, Anthurium is a rare indoor flowering plant of eye-catching beauty. It is easy to grow and maintain and is one of the best air purifying plants for dangerous toxins.

2. Aglaonema

Native to tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia and New Guinea, Aglaonema is a genus of flowering plants. Commonly known as ‘Chinese Evergreen’, they are known for their distinctive ‘lipstick-shade’ foliage. They are grown for ornamental purposes due to their toughness, drought-tolerance and low maintenance.

3. Peace Lily

Native to the tropical regions of Central and South America and South-East Asia, Peace Lily is a sturdy plant with glossy, dark green oval leaves that narrow to a point. The leaves rise directly from the soil. The long-lasting flowers start out pale green and slowly turn creamy white as they open.

4. Chlorophytum

Native to the tropical and South regions of Africa, Chlorophytum or spider plant is a species of perennial flowering plant. The spider plant is so named because of its ‘spiderettes’, which dangle down from the mother plant like spiders on a web. The spider plant is also a champion cleanser of air.

5. ZZ Plant

Native to Eastern Africa, Zamioculcas zamiifolia is a tropical perennial plant with attractive, dark green leaves. It is grown as an ornamental plant and survives extremely well indoors due to the high water content in its leaves (95%).

With this, we come to the end of our series on plantscaping. We hope it was informative and enriching.
