Planting & Care
Because many palms are grown to a great height in tropical climates, a grower needs to know the plants matured height before buying. Grown indoors and potted correctly they will grow to approximately 3 ft- 8 ft in height, making it a good idea to plan where the plant will reside, based on the space needed.
Sunlight: Palm s prefer partial shade (or partial with some sunlight), as they are more than happy in low-light conditions.
Soil: Fast-draining soil that’s fertile and evenly moist. Sandy soil amended with lots of humus is ideal.
Water: Take care to water the soil, not the crown of the plant which can lead to crown rot and may kill the plant. Water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry out a bit between watering, but don t allow it to dry out completely. Water less in winter. Provide good drainage.
Temprature: Grandish palm can tolerate a wide range of temperature from 3°C to 38°C
Fertilizer: Feed your palm regularly during the growing season. If possible, use a palm fertilizer, which will contain all the micro nutrients and extra potassium and manganese. Potassium deficiency is especially common in palms—it shows up in yellowing or brownish fronds.
- Licuala grandis likes moist soil and - when mature - is comfortable in full sun as long as the humidity is high.
- In the sub-tropics, where there are longer periods without rain this palm requires some shade and regular watering.
